Welcome back Press starters to a brand new edition of the press star leadership podcast. On thi week's episode, we're discussin eight ways to be present wit your team being activel present. Eight ways you can sho up for your team as a leader. A a leader, it's criticall important that you're present If your team doesn't feel lik you're there with them, they ca feel leaderless. So how does on be truly present for their team A lot of leaders employ passiv options like having an open doo policy, which is great, bu you're going to get even bette results. If you're activel present. Here are eight ways t be actively present with you team. One, schedule regular on on ones. The timing will depen on the size of you organization. But make sur you're having at least monthl one on ones with your direc reports. You should also kee space open in your schedule fo folks that aren't your direc reports. allow time for thei own one on ones and follow u with them the next time yo visit their location. Again this depends on the size of th group, but I tried to have a on on one with everyone every si months. This gives a opportunity for all employees t speak, not just the last ones To show physically, it' important to see the people yo work with face to face. Whe people don't see you, they ca feel insecure and disconnected If your business has multipl locations traveled to the whenever possible. You may no be able to go daily or weekly but visit them when you can. I you can't travel to them because of COVID or othe restrictions, schedule a vide call in person meetings ar better than zoom calls. But video chat is better than voic call. Three, show up mentally Showing up physically is jus half the battle. When you're i a one on one. Turn off you phones and give your ful attention. It shows that yo care. Plus we get lots of clue in context and body language. S if you aren't paying attention you're going to miss somethin important. If you can't be full present, schedule something fo another time when you can. Fo walk the floor with your teams It's important to be in the sam spaces as your teams. They nee to know you're really in it wit them. So let them know you'r coming. Walking the floor shoul be about letting your team sho off, not about surprising o catching people. Personally, like to get to the locatio early. get settled, say goo morning and ask folks ho they're really doing to get yo a lot more honest information five cent daily messages. start all my days by sending good morning message to m teams, and not only greets the and reminds them that I exist but it lets them know that whe they need something they ca come directly to me one up, mak sure you vary the messages Don't just copy and paste wha you did the day before a littl effort goes a long way. Six send monthly email updates. Kee your team up to date and in th loop with what's going on in th company. If possible, send th emails from the CEO or othe leaders and make sure th messaging is consistent an signed with a personal touch It's all about touch points an personalization. Seven hav quarterly stand ups at leas once per quarter. Everyon should come together in perso have information shared wit them and given the opportunit to ask questions. This kind o unity is important so do it b video if necessary. And eight Enjoy yearly celebrations. Us yearly celebrations to actuall celebrate. This is a wonderfu time to connect with you employees by chatting, askin questions and just genuinel enjoying your time together being present can be challengin when operating in multipl locations. But you don't want t be a ghost put the systems i place and it will pay off thi Sooner you do this, the easie it is to scale. Start when yo have a team of five, you're les likely to be caught off guar and you'll have a happier healthier team.
