Welcome back Brett starters. On this week's edition of press star leadership podcast. I have three hot topics for you. How to unleash the real you keys to getting the job you want. And three quick ways to design your game. First up five secrets to unleash the real you unlearn and unleash. How do I learn who you've been told to be? See, you can unleash who you're meant to be. Many spiritual teachers encouraged us to unlearn the person we're told to be, so we may become the person we are. While I wouldn't call myself a spiritual teacher, I wholeheartedly agree with this. There's an age old philosophical discussion regarding whether you were born to be the person you are or raised to be that person. And I'm inclined to believe in nurture, not nature. While there are several factors at play, including genetics, it is ultimately the influence of your parents, society, and culture that shaped who you are. Without self examination, and self awareness, we can fall into the trap of following others expectations of us and believing others perceptions. Many of our unchecked beliefs are rooted in what society and our upbringing placed upon us, not what we truly believe that our core it's our job to identify these limiting beliefs, figure out where they came from, and remove them, leaving only our truest selves. Spoiler alert, and may not be what your parents said you should be. So just how do you go about unlearning and unleashing your true self? Here are five secrets to unleash the real you. One. Identify problematic beliefs. Do your best to watch yourself from above and detach from your ego, which is where all that pesky judgment comes from. to observe yourself, try meditating, seeing yourself in the moment actually being the observer. Three be observed as someone else to observe you, like a therapist, looking for things you were unable to see. For. Find the underlying motivation. When you find beliefs that don't feel right, dissect them. Ask yourself, Why do I believe this? Is this who I want to be? Five. find new ways of thinking. study other cultures and find ways of thinking that are different from yours. Be open everything and attached to nothing. To find your true purpose, you first have to find trust by removing doubt, shame and limiting beliefs. Life is better, more enriching, and more joyful when you can break through these burdens. As humans, we are meant to become lighter and freer as we age, mirroring those childhood attributes. So stop worrying about society and other people's expectations and unleash who you're meant to be ready to unleash the real you press star. Are you an aspiring leader, ready to break into the next level of your career? applying for a new job. If you're ready to move up likely won't be a straight shot. Just like any good video game obstacles in your way may take some time to figure out. This is why you get multiple lives. The only way to achieve long term success is to try and try again. Here's a crash course on using persistence to get what you want. One, learn and earn the skills. Once you name your goal, figure out what it takes to achieve gaining experience and be prepared when the opportunity arises. How do you do that? One shadow someone who already does the job to take classes. Three. Find a mentor For practice the role you want, plus the one you already have, of course, number to let other people know you're interested. People often think they'll get recognized purely for doing the work, only to be disappointed when nobody offers them the role they want. How do you change this? One? tell people what you want. They can't read your thoughts, to be proactive. We live in an individual centric world, so advocate for yourself. Number three, don't lose hope. You won't get every job you apply for. This is just life. So don't lose hope. It happens to everyone. But what should you do when it happens? One, find out why if you can to learn how to improve and be better prepared next time. Three. Remember that everything happens for a reason. Four, let yourself fail once in a while and allow yourself to lick your wounds. Number four, consistency and perseverance are key. Sometimes that getting the job you want, or even losing the one you have, can be devastating. Remember, one, it's not luck. It's hard work. There's a Peter Dinklage quote that reads, I hate that word lucky. It cheapens a lot of hard work, too. If you get hit with a fireball, you get another life. Keep going. Have you taken a tumble? And for our final topic this week, Game Design how to developing the framework of a game design. There are several ways to design a video game. But today I'm sharing my preferred approach with you. It's a cross between an old mentor style and my own, which I call the finding the three things. Not surprisingly, the methodology This style is characterized by defining three important components, the meaning, the context, and the experience. Here's a top level breakdown with three quick ways to define any game design, the defining three things. First up, meaning set the theme of the game and the overall feel. It's what you would read on the back of the box. Second, context, sets the visual and conversational tone of the game. Like a verbal vision board helps the artists and writers do their thing. Third, experience sets the gameplay of the game and building guide for the developers. When you set up the defining three things it helps you do several key well things. First, it sets the vision of the game on multiple fronts, unifying your team around one concept. Second, becomes a litmus test for decisions. And third, it's a reminder of what the game actually is throughout the throes of production. So how does it work? It's pretty simple. Start by brainstorming with a team of designers, writers, editors, etc. Decide which ideas you like, hammer on each piece together and finalize it while you're all in the same room. You want to make it as airtight as possible. So each defining things usually only a few sets of concise sentences. Here's a real life example from a game that I worked on Dexter the game meaning using his killer instincts and his skills as a blood spatter analyst. Dexter Morgan struggles to solve crimes and appears to start passenger central to his character is the code of Harry which requires him to kill only those who deserve it, cover his tracks and maintain the mask of normality to those around him. context. bikini filled beaches, Cuban pork sandwiches and a crime scene on every corner. Miami is a perfect place for Dexter to hone his murderous craft. The game moves between dark and light, both in scenery and in emotions. sun drenched streets and bright neon lights provide a setting for Dexter's official crime solving. While the seedy back alleys provide cover for the dark passenger. It's a perfect playground for murder. Miami is tainted, sweltering and dirty. Tired trophy wives sleep with the pool boys and Havana gangs chop stolen cars on every block. Angry cops snark and snipe at criminals and each other barely skirting brutality and illegality. Through it all, Dexter swims like a crocodile skimming the dregs off the bottom where they disappear. Forever experience. Dexter is a mystery game emphasizing investigation and problem solving. As Dexter, the player will analyze crime scenes uncover evidence and choose which brand of justice best suits the situation, the courts or the dark passenger. The effectiveness of every choice and interaction revolves around the code of Harry, only kill the guilty, maintain the mask, and above all, don't get caught. Ultimately, everyone likes to work differently. And you have to find the design method that works best for you. Perhaps it's the three C's, or game pillars, or a combination of multiple styles. That said, Give the defining three things a try. It streamlines the work and makes for more pleasant project management. At the very least when someone comes to you with crazy sad like, hey, let's give Dexter an arm cannon like Mega Man. You can point back to your defining three things and save yourself a headache.
